In the UK, you will be required to submit the degree translation together with a translation certification or statement of truth that is signed by the translator stating that it is a “true and accurate translation of the original document”. It must also contain the translator’s or translation office’s contact details. 

UK universities will require any academic certificate that is not in English or Welsh to be translated as part of the application process. You may also need to provide a translation of your academic transcript. This is a record of all the subjects and modules that you have studied as well as the corresponding grades, credits and any exemptions. Other translated academic papers or research papers may be requested by some universities.

Can you translate a degree?

A degree certificate can be translated, however, sometimes it may not be possible to translate the grading system. Generally, you cannot make changes to a translated degree certificate unless you notice a translation error.  A certified translated degree certificate reproduces all the content of the original with the translator signing it to attest that it is a depiction of the original file. If there is an error in the original file, you will need to get this replaced by your university before we can make any changes to the translation.

Is a degree certificate mandatory for WES?

You do not need to provide your degree certificate for WES and should not send original documents as they may be destroyed. WES only require an academic transcript. If this is not in English you will need to have it translated. World Education Services (WES) offers credential evaluation. Its report identifies and details your credentials, verifies that they are genuine and evaluates the authenticity of your documents.

You cannot translate your own university degree certificate. For official purposes, including applying to universities, translated documents must be completed by an independent third party. This person or translation agency must be qualified to translate the documents and able to certify their accuracy.

What should I do if I find an error in my translated degree certificate?

If there is an error in your original degree certificate it will be translated as such by the translator. The error will be marked as “sic erat scriptum” meaning “thus was it written”.
