Immigration Documents Translation Services in London

When you move abroad, the immigration authorities of the destination country will require that your immigration documents are translated into the country’s official language. To obtain a visa or residence permit, the documents required must be subject to a certified translation.

The immigration process is complex and requires all official documents which are part of your visa application to be translated with accuracy. Espresso Translations is a professional translation company that offers certification with all document translations. We can translate documents into over 150 different languages and can meet all your translation requirements.

To enter the UK, the minimal documents you will require are a valid passport or other travel document and a visa that corresponds to the reason for entry into the country.

Depending on why you are coming to the UK, the immigration authorities, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), will require additional documents. For example, if you are applying for citizenship you must provide a translation of your birth certificate and marriage certificate, if applicable. Those who are coming to the UK to work will need to provide documents such as bank statements and qualification certificates which, if not in English, must be translated and certified.

Espresso Translations is a professional translation company that can provide quality translations of any official documents that you need to submit under immigration law. We provide certified, notarised, legalised and sworn translations in more than 150 languages.

Who can translate documents for immigration?

For your translated immigration documentation to be accepted by the Home Office, UKVI, FCDO or the passport office, it must be translated by a professional certified translator. This ensures the accuracy of the translation and its faithfulness to the original document.

By using a professional translation agency, you will receive a certified translation which bears the translator’s signature and stamp. These verify that it is a true and accurate translation of the source document.

Being a linguist with knowledge of the source and target languages is not sufficient for that person to translate official documents. Understanding of the language pair is only part of the process, the translation must be certified and in some cases, notarised or sworn. This is not something anyone, other than a professional translator, can do.

Documents translated by someone other than a qualified translator will not meet the requirements of the immigration authorities and may invalidate your immigration application.

What types of documents are requested for immigration applications?

If you are applying for a UK Visitor Visa you will need to provide the following documents:

    • Valid translated passport or travel document
    • Documents detailing the purpose of entering the UK e.g. activities related to a course of study, business meetings or performing as an artist
    • Copies of previous passports showing evidence of travel to other countries
    • Confirmation of legal residence, if not a national of the country you are applying from
    • Financial documents showing subsistence for the duration of your stay in the UK and evidence of access to those funds

Different visa types will require the applicant to present the appropriate supporting documents for that particular visa. For example, if you are coming for medical treatment you will need to provide a letter from a doctor or consultant detailing the condition, as well as the costs, duration and location of treatment.

How much does immigration translation cost?

Translation projects vary, so how much you pay will depend on which immigration path you are following and the documents you will need. Espresso Translations operates a transparent pricing system with certified translations starting at £30 plus VAT.

If you need a notarised translation, we will take your document to a notary public who will verify the identity of the translator by adding their signature and seal to the translation. This type of translation is sometimes required for legal agreements or certificates in foreign countries. Providing a notarised translation costs from £90 plus VAT.

Sworn translations are not required by UK authorities but if you need to submit documents to the Spanish embassy, for example, you may require one. The price for a sworn translation starts at £50 plus VAT.

To ensure you get a precise cost for your translation, send us your requirements and our team will provide you with a detailed, free quote.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do immigration documents need to be translated?

When asked to provide paperwork to UKVI, any documents that are not in English or Welsh will need to be translated. If you provide official documents in a foreign language as part of your visa application, they will not be accepted. Translations are required to verify your identity and other important information about you and your situation that is relevant to the immigration authorities.

It is also important that you provide the correct type of translation, e.g. certified, notarised or sworn, and that the format and layout are as close to the original as possible. Espresso Translations’ excellent customer service team provides all the support you need to ensure you get the right translation for your immigration documents.

Can I translate my own documents for immigration?

You cannot submit your own translated documents to UKVI, the Home Office or any UK authority. Even if you are a member of a professional organisation such as the Chartered Institute of Linguists or the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, documents used for official purposes must be professionally translated and certified by an independent third party.
